Daily rituals · detox tea infusion

It is June but it still feels like spring with this weather lately…not too hot yet and warmer than winter, spring is the time for detoxifying routines and rituals.

The lockdown caused me to stay at home like many others I’m sure, and with that, I found some time to delve into tea infusions. I’ve been meaning to drink more detoxifying herbal teas to support my menstrual cycle but I was never really a huge fan of hot drinks. I mean I can drink one or two a day, but more it is a bit much.

And so I realised that I can make tea infusions, let them cool down, and drink them like water. How magical right?

My whole world has shifted, and now I mostly drink herbal teas instead of water. And I love it.

Here’s my everyday tea blend these days:

· stinging nettle

super detoxifying powerful herb that grows pretty much every in the wild (including the urban wild) which I sometimes pick myself as it is so abundant and totally delicious in soup, as well as the tea of course.

· birch leaves

also super detoxifying, the juice from the sap and the leaves of the birch tree, I got this from last time I was in Iceland in a little box if shredded silver birch which is great in infusions as on its own can be a little bitter

· lemon balm

this is really good for relaxing the nervous system and calming down my emotions, plus it has a very subtle citrusy flavour which breaks the slight bitterness of the above

Sometimes I will add some mint leaves if it’s after lunch for the digestive support, and other times I will add whatever tea bags I have leftover that I never drink, like matcha and ginseng if it’s earlier in the day and I can handle some more stimulant power.

Making the infusion in 1L bottles also helps me track my water intake for the day. I aim to drink at least one and sometimes I manage two which is a big upgrade from previous times when I only had 1-2 glasses a day.

THE SECRET

Add your conscious intention into this infusion by bringing in your full attention while you’re making it. Focus on the healing goodness of these herbs and feel grateful for their powers and gifts they’re about to offer you.

How we feel about what we consume is what gives it its power. Feel yourself healing from whatever you wish to free yourself from (PMS, other hormonal imbalances etc.) while you are drinking your tea infusion.

Tip

Make sure you buy those paper tea filter bags to make your blends, I used to only ever use the metal tea filters and with those, I could only use the teapot or a cup. Finding these has changed my life on lockdown, seriously. Every time I make my infusion for the day feels like a little pleasurable self-care ritual.
