“I’m here to live, and love”
Ok, I’m not going to spoil it for you by telling you which recent movie this final line is from, but I will say how moved I feel from the many signs I see around me lately hinting that our world is, albeit seemingly slowly, waking up.
It may sound like a bold statement to put out there right now in the midst of a burning continent and looming global war threats, at the same time I can’t ignore this universal sentiment I feel, and that is people waking up to the loss of humanness that we’ve been collectively and individually suffering in the form of division, war, fear, domination, numbness, and denial of our emotions, bodies, and intuitive intelligence.
The way I see it, the rise of technology and information has exacerbated the problem, and at the same time has given opportunities that have taken us beyond hierarchies and perceived differences. Making use of this rise has given way to both sides of the polarity and it is really up to us to make the conscious choice of how we want to live life on planet Earth at this point in time.
A lot of people are turning towards service for the environment and those in need and that is absolutely necessary; at the same time, we must not do this in place of introspection and self-confrontation. We’ve seen time and time again how passionate dedication to causes can turn into more of ‘we’ and ‘them’ mentality and further separation and illusion.
If you care about the planet, its people and all living beings, start with caring about yourself, deeply, and unconditionally.
We’ve grown up to believe that to care for yourself is selfish, we are so conditioned to put other people’s needs before our own that we are totally out of resources to deal with our own issues from within. Instead, we’re looking for quick fixes from the outside in (fast fashion, food, addiction of all sorts), we care too much about what the world has to say about us because we’ve been told that what we have to say about ourselves doesn’t matter. Add some modern-day reality of hypnotic brainwashing in the form of ads, politics, tv and social media and we are totally obedient to what the culture tells us to be like, having no idea who we are and what it is we actually want.
I have nothing against technology, ads or politics, all these that can either be used positively or negatively; to be able to choose for ourselves how we want to use or perceive them we need to be able to discern between these polarities and that comes with self-awareness. We need to consciously choose to strive for our humanness, as opposed to numb out and surrender to losing more and more of ourselves as a result.
Whatever you choose to do to serve in the world right now, first choose to serve yourself, by really understanding yourself, your traumas, your patterns, your desires, your passions, by feeling your emotions, your body, your heart. By asking yourself questions, like, why am I here? What do I really want? What do I find meaningful? What lights me up?
Care for yourself so deeply, that the love you feel for yourself overflows to every-one and every-thing around you.
We are here to live, and love.
