Quarantine · three elevating online offerings

If I tell you that I’ve been on top of my daily practices during this quarantine period during the last three weeks I’d be lying - I haven’t. The lack of space and near-constant noise in my current little apartment is making it that much harder to engage in practices that involve sweating or relaxing the mind.

Still though here and there I will find the space to do something; from a little stretch to ten minutes of breath work or twenty minutes of sound practice, or even a full class from one of my favourite teachers who are now all having online offerings. Even though I’ve been largely practicing on my own for the last two years, following a class, either once or having a regular schedule does really help in self-discipline.

Here’s three of my selected online offerings during this quarantine period.

guru Jagat

My favourite kundalini yoga teacher since last August when I found myself in LA attending one of her women’s events in Malibu Canyon. Her online programming, RaMa TV, offers her classes on a daily basis; some of them are even for free, but for the full program you can get the yearly pass for about 100 euros, which is what I do. It is a little bit annoying that all the livestreams are in Pacific time (she’s based out of LA) and so it’s not always possible to join them at times that suit here in Europe. And it does take a day or two for the classes to be uploaded to the online programming, but still it’s a great resource, and I will do one of her classes at least weekly during this time.

Joren’s breath work sessions

Ok, you might say that I’m a little bit biased here, but it’s also definitely the case for a lot of other people who are joining my man’s online breath work sessions that he is an incredibly inspirational and charismatic guide to a very powerful practice that has immediate positive effects. In light of the quarantine and all the fear, restriction and anxiety that came up for a lot of people as a result, Joren put out a three-times-per-week live online program to offer some ease through his much-loved music-infused breath journeys. An instant immunity boost and natural detoxifier, calming down the nervous system and elevating the mood and energy levels - this practice is magic and you should give it a go. Mondays are donation based for those who cannot afford at these times, and Wednesdays and Saturdays are on offer for a fee which you can get massively reduced when booking the whole month.

Classical Dharma wheel

Another of my US favourites, Dharma yoga; I was so happy to see that they are now offering their classes online. One of my favourite yoga styles other than kundalini - I can finally practice a class using my dharma wheel which I bought when I was at the NYC studio a couple of years ago. Still, not the easiest in a small studio apartment, but having a class to follow as opposed to self-practice is for me much more motivating. For those based in the EU this super strong pilates wheel is a great alternative to the original, and once you get to know how to use it properly, it’s a great tool for strengthening, stretching and muscle release - all you need is a little space and a couple of the online classes to get you started. Classical Dharma wheel class is on offer three times per week and you can book through their mindbody app.

TIP · Commit to a cadence

Keep a regularity in whatever it is you choose to practice, whether that is once a day, once a week, twice a week or whatever else. If committing seems hard start simple - one thing once a week, same day and time, and stick to it. It is when we do what we said we would that grows our confidence, integrity towards our own self. This helps us grow. It is when we overcommit and eventually fail to keep up that we end up beating ourselves us for not doing enough - and that’s really exhausting. Pick one thing, once a week - and stick to it. Then you can start adding to it.
